History of a Bug: One Family's Battle

Drawing from eye witness David Peterka

As noted in the November 1st issue of the RED HAWK TIMES Nick Peterka was ill on October 31, 1987. Nicholas suffered a relapse on November 1 and 2nd. He had overcome the vomiting but was still fighting the diarrhea on Monday. Brian stayed home with Nick. Alan was also sick on Monday, the 2nd, but he could not stay home because of the first Young Folk Concert that night. He in fact woke his parents in the morning by vomiting in their bathroom after he had taken his shower!

By the evening Brian had been hit by the bug!!! Brian vomited (also in his parents bathroom...missing the toilet at least once on the way in!) when his parents returned from the concert!

Alan and Brian stayed home on Tues-day. Mary, even though feeling unwell, went to school and made it through the day. Vern Peterka, father of the stricken family, returned home and went to bed. He moaned and groaned all night. On Wednesday, the 4th, Vern stayed home and everyone else went to school. Claudia Peterka left for her Workshop in Columbus, Ohio. Around 3 A.M. the BUG found Claudia at the Holiday Inn!!! It attacked first with the diarrhea and then went into the vomit center. Claudia arrived home at 4 in the afternoon and went right to bed. She slept until 9 P.M. with no interruptions!!!

The bug stayed away from Ann and David. They remained healthy the entire time!. David claimed he was to "good looking to get sick!" and Ann claimed she was too tough!!!

Health returned slowly to the Peterkas who were stricken. It took days to get themselves back in the correct working order!!!
