| Thespian Conference
I went to Cincinnati and I walked around the block. Boy, does that sound familiar. But it's only half true because I didn't really walk around the block. I had the privilege of going down to the Thespian Conference at Princeton High school in Cincinnati. The conference took place on the weekend of April 8, 9 and 10, 1988. All together there were about 30 kids from Brunswick who went. There were over 950 people attending the conference in total. We only had three chapparones(spelling?) with us which will become more important later in the article. But first, some good news. If you weren't already informed, Alan Peterka (16) ran for a State Student Officer (S.S.O.) position when attending the conference and got one. What this unbiased reporter saw was a kid with a lot of talent and enthusiasm and that's why he was elected. There were thirteen candidates running for S.S.O. and only six could possibly make it. In other words, it's an honor to be an S.S.O. On the heavy side of the trip, there was a big scandal. During Saturday night there was a whole mess of hanky-panky. Many people were not in their correct locations after curfew. Around 4:00 a.m., the chapparones started the patrol and found one massive sleeping party in a room. Don't worry. no sex was going on, but there were guys and girls intermixed. The big surprise of the night was finding Dave Cole and Gina Bruno in bed together. Again, no sex, just sleep. But Mrs. Sprowls still refuses to speak to Gina(just a reminder: Gina is the president of Thespians). Everyone involved in this scandal received a Saturday detention(Note: Alan Peterka, Bryon Thomas, Amy Kolinski, and Alicea Schriener were not involved in the scandal along with a few others.) Contest by Mary Frances The Red Hawk Times is the proud sponsor of an Essay Contest. Tendenitis of the Akilies Tendon by David On the day of April 1, 1988, Vernon Peterka began suffering from a hurting leg. Concerned, people started asking questions. "I think you should go to the doctor, Vern!" exclaimed Claudia Peterka. Vern let on that he thought it would heal, but we knew different. We caught him looking through a medical book to make sure that it was nothing serious. Vern had been scheduled to go to Sunbury Pennsylvania on the Monday after Easter. It was now Easter Sunday and Vern's foot was in incredible pain. Since it was Easter Sunday regular hospitals were not open, so he stayed home the next day so he could go to the hospital. The doctor said that he had tendonitis of the akilies tendon. He was ordered to stay off of it for a while, so he didn't have to go to Pennsylvania that week. If you ask me, I think it was just another stupid excuse not to go out of town. The Trip With Mom by Brian On April 7th, the Peterka children (except Mary and Kevin) went to work with mom. Amy Kolinski came with us. We left home at 8:00 and got to the Children’s Home around 8:30. When we got there, we got settled and then started to work right away. We did a lot of things there: made letters for the bulletin boards, ran off papers; and made first aid kits. We were working so hard, mom was kind enough to give us a twenty minute break. We went to the gym and played basketball. It was great fun even though Alan, Amy, and I lost to Ann, David, and Nick. At 12:10 we left for lunch. Shirley Regis, moms boss, took us out to Ponderosa. Then we dropped Mrs. Regis off(back at the Children’s Home) and went to see the movie Beetlejuice, which I didn't like. Next, we went shopping and bought a new badmitton-volleyball set. All together, the day was very fun and I would recommend it for any one on a rainy day.
Badmitton by Nicholas
I just learned to play and
I still need practice on my serve,
but I beat Ann the first time I
played her -- I wasted her 7-2!
Before I played Ann, I played with
Alan against Mary and Brian -- they
won 15-12. After that I played Mary
all by herself and I beat her --
15-4!!!
Soccer by Ann
It's that time of year again, when
Ann Peterka goes out to conquer the
soccer fields! That's right, it's the
start of soccer season! Practices just
began this week and already it is
evident that the Eagles will once again
be in first place. They have the same
eleven people that they did last year -
except they are all stronger, faster, and
better in every way. Stay tuned for the
scores and highlights of every game
(which start April 23).
One more thing that I must mention.
Brian Peterka has also joined soccer this
spring. Before he did so, he had to sign
a no complaining contract. Brian has his
first practice tonight so we don't know
if he will live up to his contract
(the odds are against him!).
