informative: 10 Pizza in the News by David Today in the news, no one wanted to write the news. Sure we had 10 weeks off, but the irresponsibility of our editor upset everyone except Ann Peterka and Mary Peterka. No, Ann's cheerfulness and modesty, demonstrated in her sports articles, spread off on Mary, and then she became jolly also!! Me, I?m mad because I wasn't notified on the subject of which I had to write until after I got home from school. I had to wash the dishes, do my homework, go to the bathroom, water my dog, and go to the bathroom again. I hardly have time to write an article for the RED HAWK TIMES. I'm probably not going to get an article done, and everyone is going to be angry with me. I sort of envy you because when you have a problem you always have one good thing to think about: You don't live in the same house as Schubert!!! The play, HAY FEVER, is going very well. Mrs. Sprowls is being her normal self as a director. Todd Lucht is really making fun of Lisa Hayherst while singing mosh type songs. He's sort of funny. Jason G. sort of jumps around trying to be funny, he's not. The rest of the cast mostly does homework, or throws grapes to each other in the scene shop. Everything is somewhat unorganized but everything will pull together by show time. Acting class is the exact opposite of the play. Ms. Mittler loads on the work and seems very organized. I think I'm going to learn a lot from her so I don't mind all the work. I gave my first monologue in her class and everyone analyzed it. It was plenty of fun and work. To wrap up my life in a nut shell: ALL WORK AND HALF FUN!!! National News Commentary by Mary The two major news items of the week have one thing in common; they both begin with the letter "I": Iowa and Israel. (And your saying to yourself - Oh no! boring politics. Well tough beenies! The editor assigned me national news and if you have a problem write to her), In Iowa Democratic hopeful Gephardt came out minorly ahead of the other dwarves. This telling us absolutely nothing. Although their Iowa sweatshirts read "Democrats: United We Stand" they are rather uncoordinated and vague. On the Republican Field Senate Minority Leader Robert Dole came out far ahead of Pat 'the Preacher' Robertson and George. 'the Wimp' Bush. This is probably and hopefully the end of Bush's career, especially if he comes in second in New Hampshire. Although the media is making a big deal about the whole affair, the Field is still wide open and unpredictable. The other item on the table is Israel. The Zionist state continues its aggression in the West Bank and Gaza area disrupting peace and security throughout the Arabian Gulf region. Also in that region (two other words that begin with ?I?) Iran and Iraq continue to fight with no end in sight. Actually even if an arms embargo went through the people hate each other so much that they would continue to fight with their bare hands. That is the news for this week and unless there is a flood of complaint letters concerning the excitingness of this article the next issue will be based on South Africa, Apartheid, and the enforceability of the principles of the United Nations Charter!!! To the Editor: I was totally bored reading about the national news. You should get a new writer, someone like your sports editor: funny, creative, not biased, and much much more!!! If you want people to read your paper, fire your national news writer. I was reading that disgusting article to my brothers - they all left before I was finished, and I fell asleep! I am considering discontinuing my subscription if I should see another one! In this puzzle you have to find the words: Valentines, Birthday, Hearts, love, Kelly, Edna, Bert, Care and Cupid...... Coke Policy by Mary There was a short period in which we believed, for the sake of the dieters, that there would be no more coke in the Peterka household. Those of you who are reading this in shocked disbelief need not worry. Coke withdrawal hit the household hard and soon we were drinking coke again. Presently, the rule is 3 cans of Coke a week. One of these is free, the other two will cost you 35 cents. When you take a coke, free or paid, you must sign the chart on the refrigerator, have someone witness it and sign the chart. Now, for the benefit of our readers, the following are ways to get around the new Coke policy: 1. If you are just thirsty for pop and not partial to Coke, drink some of the abundance of 7-Up which is present in the house. 2. Drink Coke when no one is home. 3. Drink your coke in the basement where no one will see you. 4. Promise to co-sign for someone else if they will co-sign for you when you don't pay. 5. If all else fails at least make sure you pay the 35 cents out in pennies to commemorate Lincoln's birthday. Sports by Ann Marie Ann Peterka has been in Gym for only two weeks and already she's a star! The first week the class did hardly anything because that had to go over rules and regulations of Gym. This week, however, was different. The class started to play basketball. Immediately, everyone knew that Ann was a star. Playing two-on-two, and teamed up with a boy, Ann still managed to score. Ann's team (which consisted of Ann Peterka and Kevin Steele) won both games that they played: one was a shut out; the other game they allowed one point. Each game was played up to ten which makes 20 possible. Ann scored 16 points!! Ann Peterka was also drafted (because she's so good) to be on another team, which also won 10-4. Ann scored 6 of those points!!! St Ambrose Peterkas also have some sports news. They have just finished playing volleyball. Nick's team is undefeated and have ended in first place. Brian's team has never won a game and finished in last place. David's team ended in first place all because of David!! His team was down 11-2 until David got to serve. He made 13 points and saved his team from defeat!!! One other sports item, Ann Peterka has signed up for soccer for the 15th consecutive season!!! So about the weather report: it was wet on February 11, 1988, but the kids hope that it will ice up so buses can't come on February 12, 1988. Be-cause if we get off on the 12th and off on the 15th that means we get a four day weekend!!! So that's all the weather reports for today. Thank you! I'm Nick Peterka!!! Uncle Bob's Visit by Ann Marie Uncle Bob came to town on the week of February 3 and stayed until February 10th. Mom thinks the trip was uneventful because she did not find out anything about his alleged girlfriend, Sandra. He did say that he called Sandra twice while he was in Brecksville. When asked by Ann if she missed him very, very, very, much he replied "Yes"' He brought a movie with him. It was his science fair project! It only lasted 3 minutes but was still exciting ! ! !! Seeing Uncle Bob strapped into a chair swinging back and forth. It was really suspense filled and action packed. It received 4 stars!! One other thing that came out of this trip was that we casually mentioned that Kevin thought it was about time he visited Oregon again! Personally, I think Uncle Bob should get married or just decide that he needs to have his family visit him and invite them all out to Oregon (All expense paid). All of us kids enjoyed his visit (and his neat ear flaps on his hat) so we rated his visit, on a scale of 1-10. We gave him a 10 because of that great movie! Mom only gave the visit a 3 because she didn't find out enough information about Sandra.... School News -- BHS by Ann Marie & Brian The second semester has just started at BHS. The new semester brought a few changes. The major change was the leaving of choir director Avis Thrash and the arrival of Mrs. Barbara Sterbank. So far she has been an all right director even though we have to do 25 jumping jacks!! Dad says that she doesn't care how we sing just as long as we look good! We are continuing the same songs that we started with Mrs. Thrash. Report cards also came with the new semester. Both report cards were okay. Ann did not do very well on exams while Alan received A's on all of them (In Chinese he got an A++) Scheduling is now beginning for the 1988-89 school year. There will be 3 kids in high school: Alan in 12th, Ann in 10th and David in 9th grade!!! ************ In the school news there was a dress-up day on February 12, 1988. Science Fair is now over with and nobody placed in our household. I had my picture in the paper for our Book Fair. |
